Although it has four legs, it does not walk and moves mostly by rolling. The speed is very leisurely, and at first glance it looks like it's not moving.

However, I suddenly noticed that he was by my side. It seems like it would be faster if I hurried more, but I rarely feel like it.

Tare Panda History[]

This panda was created in 1995 when

Mr. H, a designer who had just joined the company, was in charge of designing stickers. Mr. H's fatigue, both physically and mentally, seemed to have reached its peak. Then, one day,

during the heyday of CG characters,

the designer in charge said

, ``Tare Panda is also CG!!'' I thought...but I couldn't do it.That's why I drew it by hand to give it a three-dimensional feel. 1998.2

Released as a character in Character MIX. A popularity survey showed that it was popular with the general public , and the decision was made to commercialize it. Great development starts as 1998.7 series.[2]

While first released as stickers in 1995, stationery products featuring Tarepanda weren’t released until 1998. In February 1998 Tarepanda erasers and letter pads were released and were an instant hit with sales reaching almost $300 million in just a few months following release. San-X believed these products were successful because they were released shortly after the Asian financial crisis of autumn 1997, a time when many people in Japan were facing layoffs and, consequently, were sympathetic toward a "worn-out" panda character.

By 1999,sales of Tarepanda goods had reached 30 billion yen. Character Databank, a Japanese character popularity monitoring firm, has claimed Tarepanda was a huge hit in Japan. It was rated one of the most popular characters in Japan for being so "Kawaii" or "Cute".
