Translation Notes[]

In Japanese, "makura" means "pillow" and "baku" means "tapir" and/or a Japanese dream spirit. These two words are combined for a pun. Baku (獏 or 貘) are Japanese supernatural beings that devour dreams and nightmares. They have a long history in Japanese folklore and art, and more recently have appeared in Japanese anime and manga. The Japanese term baku has two current meanings, referring to both the traditional dream-devouring creature and to the zoological tapir (e.g., the Malaysian tapir).

Description[]

Oyasumi Bakura is a pillow-shaped tapir who loves nothing better than sleeping! He serves as guardian of resting and guarantees sweet and pleasant dreams. This little guy inhabits jungle and forested regions when he's awake, patrolling the lands for unsuspecting creatures to cast his sleep-spell over. With him by your side, you will always have sweet dreams.

Bakura is typically blue and white. He is a baku, which in japan is the name for a dream eating spirit that resembles a tapir, and also the animal itself.

This character is based on the animal tapir, and is characterized by its two-tone color of light blue and white.

As a side character, there is a pink toy poodle named ``Susu'' who is kept at home, but the owner of the house like ``Kaoru-san'' in ``Rilakkuma'' does not appear.

"Baku like a pillow," the theme seems to be "sleep," and if you sleep with her, she will sing you a lullaby to put you to sleep. Goods such as ``low-resilience pillow stuffed animals'' are also available.
